The Rubicon: Shared intentionality enables cumulative culture and gene-culture coevolution in Homo heidelbergensis. Hunting with spears, plus cooking on hearths, shows much more collaborative groups (500-700 KYA)

The capacity to find form in chaotic clay
pools to bursting in my exquisite fingers.
I am the vise, the focal crush of synthesis
because born alone we walk the road of souls.
The will to cleave grotesque clouds
rises crackling like spinal magma.
I am the vulture, all wide spiraling eyes watching
because below decaying layers lie our primal roots.
The grit to stand tall facing Sandstorms of Hours
slides in steel coils in my savage guts.
We are Python, strangling weasels
because the mirror stares back.
The power to lacerate leonine jaws
lies smoldering in my sacrum.
We are the lever that topples rotten parapets
because we die alone in this loving maelstrom.
And we breathe
and feel the fullness of our joints
and reach for the stars
on the exceeding horizon.
